🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia: A serial hacker? | Al Jazeera English
Saudi Arabia has been accused of hacking the phone of Jeff Bezos – the owner of the online shopping giant Amazon, and the Washington Post. An investigator wrote in Daily Beast that experts with whom they consulted confirmed New York Times’ reports on the Saudi capability to “collect vast amounts of previously inaccessible data from smartphones in the air without leaving a trace – including phone calls, texts and emails,” and confirmed that hacking was a key part of the Saudi’s “extensive surveillance efforts that ultimately led to the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.”
Bezos hired private investigators after his phone messages were leaked to the National Enquirer tabloid newspaper.
His detectives have linked the hack to the Washington Post’s extensive coverage of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Saudi ministers have previously denied any link to the National Enquirer leak.
Al Jazeera’s Sara Khairat explains that it isn’t the first time Saudi Arabia has been accused of this.
